Nikon D80

Nikon D80 Camera

The Nikon D80 offers the regular Program, Aperture priority, Shutter Priority and fully manual modes along with a fully automatic setting and six programme modes, enough to cater for a wide range of requirements. Nikon's well-respected 3D Colour Matrix Metering II monitors brightness, colour, contrast, selected focus area and camera-to-subject distance to ensure ideal exposures in a wide range of conditions. Auto focus uses the same system as Nikon's D200 and is easy to use and effective.

The Nikon D80 camera features an AF-A mode, which automatically switches from AF-S (single auto focus) to AF-C (continuous auto focus) when subject movement occurs. A re-programmable function button sits between the camera’s grip and lens. This can be customised to operate a number of different settings.

Nikon D80 Digital Camera

Previous Nikon digital SLRs have made us of Compact Flash memory cards, the Nikon D80 digital camera does not. Instead the Nikon D80 uses both SD and new SDHC (high capacity) card. While the ceiling for these cards used to be 2 GB, in the last year SDHC cards offering capacities up to 32 GB have become available

Nikon D80 Prices

Our Nikon D80 prices include VAT and delivery (unlike the prices some retailers will show you in their adverts to appear cheaper than the big name stores). You won't find prices better anywhere else, trust us, we've looked. For some examples of how other stores hide their real charges, have a look at Nikon D80 price

If you want to find the lowest Nikon D80 price. This site has all the information you need. We don't hide VAT like other sites do either.

While the mega pixel count has gone up compared with recent Nikon models like the D200, the frame rate has gone down. The Nikon D80 can deliver a maximum of 3 frames a second.

Noise control is good and the camera produces very satisfactory images up to the 1600 ISO mark, though some noise is noticeable at the upper reaches of sensitivity settings. The Hi-1 setting, equivalent to about 3200 ISO pushes beyond what can reasonably be controlled by the system is able to deal with. ISO settings are adjusted by pressing a button and rotating the rear control wheel.

Nikon D80 Review

You can find a few short reviews of the Nikon D80 here on the Nikon D80 review page.

A button at the top of the screen determines shooting modes and the LCD itself carries all information required about settings, memory usage and power supply. While battery length obviously varies according to use, using the EN-EL3e provided permits extensive shooting before recharge is necessary.

The built in flash has good coverage, though tests suggest it can be somewhat lop-sided. The two and a half inch LCD screen provides good preview images. Navigation is made simple through intelligent controls and menu systems.

Elmo Live

Another great stocking filler, in fact an essential one for many parents, is Elmo Live. After the success of previous Elmo toys like the Tickle Me Elmo, Elmo Live is going to push toy technology to the next level. Just watching Elmo Live for a few moments will tell you this toy stands head and shoulders above all that have gone before. Previous years have produced toys live Robosapien which have some nice movements like hand gestures, but also some poor movement such as walking. Elmo Live only sticks to what he can do best. So no walking but some great mouth movement in sync with his speech. It’s also worth noting that Elmo Live doesn’t look like a robot. Other toys with anything like his amount of movement have all been obvious robots. Elmo looks like a cuddly toy. It would be very funny to give Elmo Live to a child without any batteries in for a few weeks to play with without telling them he can actually move. Then one day put some batteries in without telling them and get them to play with Elmo Live when they are on their own (or think they’re on their own). I’d love to see their reaction… There's more information at elmo-live-toy.co.uk about Elmo Live doll which is sure to be a must have present for many children this year.
